We call it an 'air plant.'

Saying you "acquired" it certainly isn't incorrect, although it does have a formal tone. As Tanya suggested, saying you "got" it or you "bought" it would sound more casual.
But I can't answer your original question about what we would call such a plant in English.

I got it today. Or "I bought it today" if you actually purchased it.
