Is there any difference between "recollection" and "memory"?

Hi Ann, I would say that I am very specific about how I would use "recollection," whereas "memory" is a pretty broad word that can be used in a lot of instances. The dictionary states that recollection "adds an implication of consciously bringing back to mind often with some effort. after a moment's recollection he produced the name."

They are largely synonyms, but recollection is a bit more formal.
