Question for American people: Has "ought to" fallen in disuse? I've been living near Chicago for the last 10 months and I haven't heard any person to say it.

Keep in mind that in American usage, "ought to" is only usable in affirmative statements, not in questions or negatives (where "should (not)" will be substituted). Also note that the American pronunciation of "ought to" may not sound like what you're expecting; it will sound more like "ora" or "ore" to a Spanish speaker. So you may actually be hearing it without realizing it.

It more so depends what part of america you live in, but it has definitely fallen out of favor, especially with younger people.

I'm American and I still use it and encounter it. It will usually be pronounced; "oughta."
