Hi there! I have a question:
Could 'for one thing' and 'on the flip side' be alternatives for 'on the one hand' and 'on the other hand'? If not, are there any alternatives?
Thanks in advance!
Carlos
Hi Carlos! Yes, those sounds fine to me. As someone from the UK, I often hear 'however', 'then again' and 'whereas' used as alternatives to 'on the other hand'. I hope this helps đ

Hi Carlos.
Both are good, however, 'on the flip side' is a slightly better alternative. 'For one thing' can be use to point out a fact or a reason, but not always as a counter argument to what has already been said.

I agree with Adam with the use of âfor one thingâ because that usually highlights/focuses on that one thing whereas âon the flip sideâ may be used to express a contradictory statement. So âon the flip sideâ could be used to substitute âon the other handâ âcontrary to that/on the contraryâ âinverselyâ but these are more formal.

I think it depends on the broader context of the sentence and your thought that you intend you articulate. However, in addition to the ones mentioned above, we also use whereas.
