Hi. I'm from Indonesia. In my opinion, there's no such thing as an Indonesian culture since there are at least 300 ethnicities with their own distinctive cultures. I'm going to tell you something about Indonesia. Indonesians love to eat spicy foods. We have our own sauce which we call sambal. If you're visiting my country, you will find sambal in every restaurant. Sambal is made from a mixture of chilli, onion, a little bit of salt, tomato, and sometimes we put "terasi" to enrich the flavour. Terasi is made from shrimp but the smell is very strong and even some Indonesians can't resist it. We make sambal in the traditional way by mashing the ingredients or, nowadays, with a blender.
Another thing about Indonesian is that we love rice. Meals are not complete without rice. We eat rice thrice a day. I think that's normally what we do but some people might not. In my case, my mom would definitely be angry if i didn't eat rice each day. Although if we have bread or other carbohydrate sources, we still have to eat rice. I love red rice more because it's healthier than white rice. It's really good for weight loss because of the low calories.
Hey, i put the sambal picture here. If you're visiting Indonesia please try sambal and enjoy the painful pleasure of spicy foods.
(I love spicy foods too!)
