It's important to remember that prepositions explain relationships. Generally, * "in" conveys the meaning of "inside" a literal or metaphorical boundary * "for" explains where to find the benefit or purpose Dan's explanation was clear, concise, and correct. Knowing how we use these prepositions can help you to understand why these two are different. Live in the moment. It is as if your life exists inside a box that represents the present moment. What's happening now is all you see and experience. Everything else is outside of your awareness. Live for the moment. The moment or the experience is the purpose of life. When your life focuses on the current moment, you'll find a greater benefit than you would if you focused on the past or future. If we change the verb and noun, you can see how to apply these principles in other situations: Read in school. The location where you are to read is within / inside the building that is a school. Read for school. Depending on the context: 1. The purpose of reading is to complete a school assignment. 2. Perhaps there is a fundraiser that benefits the school. An organization agreed to pay the school $1 per book read by members of the community. You are being encouraged to read more books because it benefits the school.

The do not have the exact same meaning because the preposition is different. In THIS case, In the moment, could be written as IN THIS moment OR. IN THAT moment. SO - the IN takes on an idea of specific moment. Now in. FOR the moment... this could be written as FOR ANY moment. In summary - IN makes it specific... and FOR make it valid for all or many. Hope this helps. Teacher Dena

They are similar, but not the same. Live in the moment. = be present to now. Live for the moment. = Enjoy yourself now, don't worry about the future or past.
