I've been slacking off on my English studies lately.
Every few months, I can't maintain my motivation.
What do you do when that is the case?

Hello
It has different reasons, maybe you cannot make progress or improving skills such as speaking, could you explain more?

Go for an easy win. Try doing something you know you can achieve so that you feel like you are getting somewhere.
Make it fun. Watch an English movie and maybe have subtitles and call it a listening exercise. Who knows?
The important thing when you stop is not to stand there, but to put that next foot forward. Don't worry about the big goals that seem so hard and so far off. Just keep taking that next step and pretty soon you'll get there.

Progress in a language is not linear, even though we wish that it could be.
There will be months where you make a lot of progress, and other months where you are simply "treading water."
This is okay, and normal.
If you need motivation, get an American girlfriend. (Or British, or Australian, etc.)
