English isn't my first language and I'm at an intermediate level. I've noticed something frustrating. When I'm reading or listening, I recognize lots of words. But when I actually start speaking, those words disappear from my mind. I end up using the same simple vocabulary over and over, even though I know more than that. Does anyone else have this? What have you tried to fix it? Has anything actually worked — an app, a method, a tutor, anything? Did you pay for something or just use free resources?

What you are describing is actually very common—it's completely natural. First, think about children before they begin speaking. They spend a long time listening and understanding before they are able to speak fluently. You can see this clearly because if you give them a simple instruction, they understand it, even though speaking is still difficult for them at that stage. As time passes, their ability to speak gradually improves and develops. The same principle applies to someone learning a second language. The main difference is that a second-language learner already has a native language to express themselves, whereas a child is just beginning to speak and can only use a few simple words at first, such as "water," "dad," "mom," or "brother." So, the solution is, first of all, to be patient and understand that this is a completely natural stage of language learning. Then, try to speak using whatever vocabulary you already have, and create as many opportunities as possible to practice speaking. This is how you gradually build the same speaking ability that children develop over time. To put it simply: push yourself to speak, even if you cannot find all the words you want. At the same time, spend a lot of time listening to natural spoken language. Those two things together are what gradually develop fluent speaking
