Actually, there isn't any difference. But we use "ama" more than others in informal situations.

There are more words. Yalnız , zira and lakin. Yalnız is originally Turkish, zira originally persian, lakin originally arabic. But zira and lakin were used old times. Today we generally use yalnız, ancak, ama , fakat.

I find wonderful that you have a pure turkish, an arabic and a persian word for 'but'. I think that enriches the language a lot.

there is not difference. Ancak is originally Turkish word, ama is originally arabic word, fakat is originally persian word. So i prefer ancak
