"For example" in Chinese
Can someone please tell me are there any differences between these 4 expressions to mean "for example" I Think i mainly hear people use bi ru shuo. then after bi fang shuo. Recently i heard someone use li ru shuo and i just looked in my dictionary and found another 'pi ru'
Thanks
比如
bǐ rú
例如
lì rú
譬如
pì rú
比方说
bǐ fang shuō

I think they are basically interchangeable. 比如说/比如 are used in speaking more often compared to the other three, while 例如/譬如 are mainly used in writing (but, of course, you can use them in speaking as well). The meanings are the same. I think 比方说 sounds somehow strange and less used.

thanks everyone for the comments. I didn't expect such good responses. I rarely use this discussion board. I will try to use it more often.

Add another two in spoken Chinsese:
打个比方,...
举个例子 , ...

In a word, these four are extremely similar to each other.
The formal ones 譬如>例如>比如
The casual ones 比方说
