What's the difference between though and although?

The two are synonyms when they are used as a conjunction with the meaning of "despite the fact that ...".
The difference is that "although" is used only as a conjunction and nothing else, while "though" has a wider usage.
"though" can be used as an adverb in the sense of 'however': "He is good at math though".
"though" also makes phrases like "even though" (similar to "although") and "as though" (synonym to "as if").

Although it may not seem very obvious to some if us, the word "Although" has a sutble, but important and very significant difference than the word "though." As the difference, primarilly, is it the first letter of the word.

They are generally synonymous in meaning. Although is more like saying "even though" so you could say although is additional emphasis, however, it's give or take.
