Narrative voice

Have you ever been deely impressed by a narrator voice ?

After watching " 500 days of Summer ", I really like listening to the narrator's voice. His name is Richard McGonagle

Besides, I also like to listen to Mike Shinoda voice in his interview clips.

What about you ?

I can't remember any particular narrative voice but it's tremendously important for sure, especilly while listening audiobooks.

I can be easily captivated or disappointed by someone voice. It can be weapon, especially if it goes together with beauty, style and ideally, intellegence:-)).

There is a film " Ирония судьбы или с легким паром" (" The irony of fate) where Russian actress sounded Barbara Briska. If I were a man I would die or fall in love)))

Also, I like Dakota Johnson's voice and probably, it's about a speaking manner as well. This is important - intonation , etc as Morgan Freeman said about improving voice and making it deeper.  So, even if a  narrator or just a speaker has an innate pleasant voice, it isn't enough.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHce62IrMOQ ; funny video

I have a temporary obsession  by LP " Forever for now" song which I listen every day a lot of times  but I can't listen her voice in interviews)). Mystery.

(sorry, I ran out of space, lol)

I can't find the samples of the Moscow Metro announcements though. There is a very interesting system, by the way: the upcoming stations on inbound trains to the city center are announced by a male, and on the outbound trains - by a female. Not sure if it's a widespread practice or a specific feature of the Moscow Metropolitan but it's really convenient. But I wonder what these actors (and their relatives) feel when they ride the subway themselves.

As for the English speaking voiceovers... My friend recommended that I listen to some professional (commercial) voiceover artists (as a part of a try-to-speak-as-a-human-being practice) and I never regret doing this because I eventually found true love Emma Clarke. Great voice and, from what I can tell, very nice personality. There is a lot of fun stuff on her website, by the way - from the short blog entries like "Dear Emma Clarke, do you do men?" (http://emmaclarke.com/dear-emma-clarke-men/) to the out-takes from recording sessions (this is my favourite one - https://soundcloud.com/emmabclarke/my-award-winning-out-take).

Just in case - nobody paid me for advertising (and that's a shame).

Sure! Voice is really, really important - and it can be very impressive! And I think that's the first thing I pay attention to when I meet new people, actually.
(ironically enough, I don't really like mine; well, not anyone can be a voiceover artist after all)

Speaking about Russian narrators... There is a great voiceover Vsevolod Kuznetcov, I truly love him! He's the Russian voice of Tom Cruise, Antonio Banderas, Brad Pitt and Lord Voldemort - but gamers know him as Geralt of Rivia or 'the Witcher'. I've seen all his interviews and out-takes (which are also very enjoyable because he has great sense of humour): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cW3Sq5wfdIc
To be honest, when I heard the Witcher's voice in other languages, I wasn't really impressed. I think I can safely say that Russian gamers play entirely different version of the game - which is, in my opinion, even better than the original one.

As for audiobooks... I doubt there are many Russian audiobooks lovers here but I can't resist mentioning my favourite narrators. The best female voice for me is Veronika Raitciz's - https://vocaroo.com/i/s1tgefv3Yitm; the best male narrator is Igor Kniazev - https://vocaroo.com/i/s0EUJI7rzdp2. And they are very professional; simply off the charts.

Hmmm. I guess that's a little off-topic but I'm also very partial to the voices of the Saint Petersburg and the Moscow Metro. E.g. that's the voice of Saint Petersburg underground: https://goo.gl/jn4xuM

Ksusha,

thank you for St Pete :) Wish you were live here.

Wei, Naomichi,

Have you seen this short video where Morgan Freeman is talking about voice?  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFxKt1sexVc

Jerry,

James Earl Jones sounds like a reliable business partner for me.

I've just thought that people  input different meaning in attractive voice. For me it's not about business:). You know my favourite song)).  - not LP
