Self Assigned Homework?

Hi fellow language learners~
Do you give yourself homework? If so, what do you do?
I've found I do much better when I give myself homework with deadlines, and am curious what others do.
Do you use dialogues, song lyrics, grammar exercises from books? Please tell me :)

I give myself the following to study Japanese:

Study kanji vocab from song lyrics & drama dialogues, then try to translate the sentences
Grammar exercises from Genki
Practice sentences corrected on Lang8

I do a little bit of everything that you have mentioned except for the song lyrics. I find it less useful because I think it is not the language people speak in real life. The most beneficial for me is listening to the podcasts and watching vlogs which are supposedly being made for locals. The importance and effectiveness of these resources in terms of acquiring new speech patterns cannot be overemphasized. Exercising on a daily basis extensively widens my vocabulary, gives me a better understanding of grammar and trains my self-discipline but it does not help me with speaking at all. For this purpose, I do speak to myself, argue with an invisible opponent and try to describe everything I can. Textbooks and other printed materials I use only as a supplement.

If I call it ¨homework¨ I won´t do it.

Instead, I get absorbed in interesting projects.  It might look similar from the outside, but the mindset is different.

Sometimes I will give myself a specific goal for a day like memorizing "X" amount of kana today, but more often than not I just make sure to set aside a certain amount of time per day as a goal.
