The expression is very colloquial but it does generally mean “to like”, but it conveys the notion of an intimate attraction. You would never ask a casual friend “Are you into me?” That would possibly get you laughed at. But you could say, “That’s his girlfriend. She’s really into him.” See the difference?

If someone asks you that, it means they are asking if you like him/her.
