The simple present can express
1) A habitual action or a condition (state)
- Comment tu vas au bureau (en général)?
- Je vais au bureau en taxi. (I go to the office by taxi. - habit)
2) An action in progress (started but not finished)
- dring ...
- Allô?
- Jean, où es-tu? / que fais-tu (maintenant)?
- Je vais au bureau en taxi." (I am going to the office by taxi. - action in progress)
3) A certain future action
- Ma voiture est tombée en panne. Demain, je vais au burean en taxi." (I will go to the office by taxi. - future action)
Context is important for understanding the statement.
