How do you keep track of your learning?

I am interested in ways how we can keep track of our language learning journey and assess improvement.

I normally set short-term goals because it makes it easier to check whether I am actually making any progress. My interlocutors also help in providing feedback and making suggestions. i am also aware that goals might change along the way and depends on the skill(s) I am focusing on...

What about you? How do you keep track of and assess your learning?

I don't keep track at all.

My learning is for fun and so I don't want to turn it into a chore. I leave that kind of approach for work.

That's a challenging question Anna :)

In fact, mine would be taking official exams each year, but I know this is not the kind of answer you were looking forward to hearing  :(( I wish someone kept track of my progress haha... (^_^)

I lost much interest and pleasure after using certain apps and studying very difficult vocabularies which I would never use for my work nor in my private English conversations. So, I decided to immerse myself in listening hours to English programs and I derive a lot of pleasure from doing so.

I even feel that keeping track, taking exams and not getting the result you want, applying certain pressure on yourself can work negatively and be demotivating, at least it has for me.

(Btw, should it be: it makes IT easier to....?)

If you study for an exam then you should definitely keep track and check that you cover every point on the syllabus. If I were teaching from a syllabus I would check that my student covered all its points, and said what the examiner wanted to hear. This means regular tests. Especially important is an assessment exam at the beginning, which would give me a good idea of where they are.
