Friend is asking me for telegram ID, but which ID?

Hey everyone.

A friend from Iran is asking me for my telegram ID (it's easier to send messages on telegram than on italki).

But which ID is she talking about? There's the personal ID (= a number), but another friend talked about a different ID. Which ID is she asking for? I don't know telegram very well, therefore it's slightly confusing.

Can someone help me with this?

Bonsoir Anthony ;

Telegram is kind of a  social network similar to Whats app and Viber.

It is very popular in Iran and is used for sending text, audio and video messages and photos as well as making calls.

As @Miriam and @Raven said , there are two ways to find people on Telegram :

1) By their cell phone numbers

2) By their usernames which they have created on Telegram ( cell number will not be displayed )

Whichever information you provide, your friend can find you.

Hope this helps!

You can either give her your phone number of your user name that you can create if you want that people find you by the name without knowing your number. Go to settings. Right under your phone number, there's a button where you can create a public user name.

May be they mean your username? You can create a username and give it to them instead of the phone number. Your phone number will be locked for them.

Well, telegram was created by Pavel Duov, before telegram he had a vk.com. In vk every profile has his own id, for example vk.com/id55004 . So to find someone on vk people asked for sent id  (link on profile).

In telegram use a phone number or @username . It has not an id, but people used vk before calling them that way. Word "id" become a meaning identification.
