Finding a word in a Chinese sentence

大家好

I'm reading a Chinese easy reader for beginners. An English translation of the story is printed after the Chinese text. 

The following Chinese sentence says (according to the English text) that Yexian saved her food to feed the fish: 

叶限把自己的吃的省下来

My question is: Which of these words above means "saved"?

I guess it is 省 :) I couldn't find this definition in Pleco, but I found it in another online dictionary :)
