Professionele leerkrachtVideo interview reaction: Meet Japan's number one hostess..
Hoshino Kurumi was prepping up for an interview with Asian Boss, in the video you can see a beautiful woman, well-dressed in a posh club in Japan, her name is Kurumi, the number one hostess in Japan. When you hear the word hostess, people can have negative connotations with this job. In my country, a hostess is someone who entertains guests in a bar or a nightclub. Night clubs are popular in some parts of my country (there is a stigma to that word you know).
This is an interesting interview, so I thought, I was interested to know what her job was like. In the video, you will see Hoshino Kurumi answering questions of a curious reporter. Perhaps the most important question is, “Why she chose to be a hostess? I love her candidness and authenticity, plus the fact that she is very charming, there is no doubt why she is number one. She entertains rich men who go to VIP clubs, and her service is paid by the hour. One of her clients said that she treats us like a friend, not just a paying customer. Unlike other girls, she is honest and not fake.
It takes two hours for her to prepare before she works and meets clients. “ It’s all about looks, our clients pay us to see us.” The interviewer then went on to ask how many does she earn per day? I earn $930 a day. How much was your highest salary per month? The reporter asked. “The highest I have earned was $47,000 a month.” The reporter or interview was so surprised and honestly I had the same reaction. A hostess can earn more than a manager or an office worker, a job considered as “taboo” often looked down upon in some cultures. What I like about Hoshimo Kurumi in this interview is her charm combined with authenticity. She is honest and it is basically like any other job. I really admire her for doing this interview and sharing a perspective about a job that I once had one-dimensional ideas.
In any job, there is a downside to job like this though, it is like modelling in a sense, it is a job dependent on “youth and beauty.” A beautiful hostess has a timeline for jobs like this. That is why in a similar video about a Taobao model earning Seven figures a month, like Kurumi, she knows that it is not a job that will last forever, it is dependent on youth and beauty. It was so interesting to know that she is a professional and the interview went well that I saw her as a woman with dignity. I mean she did turn down a lot of men and rejected offers that were inappropriate. Although her job is seen as taboo, I think in a world where struggles are something so common, you must be resourceful, “If you have beauty then use it while it’s there.”
