The study of word roots is "etymology." English dictionaries give the etymology of English words.
Word roots are not useful to beginners.
1) Knowing Latin and Greek roots is helpful to well-educated native speakers.
It is helpful with specialized technical vocabulary. Doctors use advanced medical vocabulary. Many medical words are based on Latin and Greek roots: nephritis, cerebellum, sphygmomanometer. Medical students learn "Medical Greek and Latin." It helps them remember the meanings of these terms.
2) Spanish, Italian, and French come from ancient Latin. Many English words also come from ancient Latin. So, some words from Latin are almost the same in Spanish and English. They are called "cognates." For example, cerebro and cerebrum, nación and nation, pasto and pasture, ciencia and science. These are useful to native speakers of these languages. There are almost no cognates between Chinese and English. They are not useful for Chinese speakers.

Can you tell me if native English speakers use word roots to remember the words?
***************************************************************************************************
I don't know if knowing the root of a word can help you remember the word, but it can help you understand the word.
Here are three examples of common roots:

act do Latin activity - something that a person does;
