Take the Risks or Play It Safe?

Most of us know, how important it is for us to be able to take over risks. However, after all the thinking, every risk-taking acts and behavior always get us back to playing it safe, don't you think?

As when I thought I was challenging myself and pushing myself out of the comfort zone, by doing challenging things but then suddenly realized that I'm trying to save myself from being as normal as others. I'm not so sure if myself is really different from the others (peers especially), or I was just acting to be different, eventhough honestly I do feel different.

Am I just trying to save myself from being ordinary because the real world needs extraordinary people? If I am, wasn't that a situation where I am trying to play it safe?

So... how do you differentiate 'taking the risks' from 'playing it safe'?

Hello Fidza  Wahab:

Several issues are involved with this subject.

  (A)  Following    Social Convention.

   (B)  Convincing ourselves that we really are   "different" from others.

I would present the issues this way:

In terms of (B),  modern  people tend to convince themselves that they are "different" from others.

Mass advertising also supports that conclusion.

Mankind generally,  tends to think   of itself as  "unique" or "special"  its Individuality.

We tend, as modern people, to convince ourselves that we base our life upon   such    disciplines as  Scientific Knowledge and Logic.

.

Contrary to that proposition however,  is the practice of modern people  (per  A)

 to follow Social Conventions.

Example:   Witness the continual appearance  of discussion topics  in which modern people invite other people to publish an "opinion".    Mankind generally, does not "reason".  Mankind generally,  looks for one Social Convention or another to follow, to imitate.  Mankind generally wants to be shown

Who---To---Follow  or What---To---Follow, in the form of Social Convention.
