when can i use "Usted" and "Tú"

Also you should know the different between use of " tu" and "tú" both are different . In the first " tu " is about possesive, for example : Tu carro ( your car). In the second "tú" is about personal pronoun, for example: Tú manejas un carro. (you drive a car.) So the " tilde (´) " is very important for writing Spanish.

"Tú" is used during informal situations, such as talking to your friends, siblings, classmates, etc.

"Usted" is used during formal situatioins, such as talking to your teachers, parents, boss, etc.

However, in Latin America, if you're saying "you all", you use "ustedes" even in informal situations. Thus saying, "ustedes" can be used in both formally and informally.

both are formal words to say 'you'...

but I think 'usted' is even more formal than 'tu'

Generalmente en la mayoria de paises Hispanohablantes el:

 

*USTED, es usado Formalmente.

Se recomienda usarse cuando se necesita un nivel del "Respeto", o cierta distancia, generalmente es usado cuando no se tiene mucha confianza.

 

* el "TU"...---> es más usado en el Lenguaje "informal", o también es usado cuando se tiene mucha confianza hacia la persona a la que va dirigida la conversación.

En general el "usted" se utiliza para dirigirse con respeto a personas mayores de 30 años. Y para los demas, el "tu".
