There has never been any custom or legal concept more important in maintaining a proper civilized society than the marriage covenant between a man and a woman.

Emily,   I am not entirely sure about   the law in your country, but  even though many young Americans  think and feel as you do,  they come to a rude awakening   in terms of their legal rights  and division of property when they simply live together  conjugally.

For example, if they "play house" together  as unmarried adults, and share a joint bank account,

one of the people can simply withdraw all of the money from the Joint Bank Account and move out.

The other person has no legal recourse to ask for the money back.

Phone bills and other issues are also a difficulty.

Also, if one of the persons decides to have 2 or more sexual liasions with other people, the person they have lived with  has no just cause for complaint.

So, in those context,  living together and trying to get "around" the issue of the Transcendent or Spiritual  bond of Marriage, is not a very good idea.

I know it is a very popular practice, at least in the USA,  but I would not recommend it to anyone.

People may suppose that they are simply an animal species and that cohabitation has not significance,

but it fails to consider serious issues.   The 2nd, 3rd, or 4th  "live-in"   mate that a woman  chooses, may not regard  her children as OFF-LIMITS as  a sexual prey to be taken advantage of.
