In English - The Great Gatsby, Heart of Darkness, Hamlet, A Streetcar Named Desire, Hedda Gabler, Medea, and Things Fall Apart, among others.
In French - Dangerous Liaisons, Madame Bovary, a few novels by Zola, and a lot of poetry (Rimbaud, Baudelaire, Verlaine, Apollinaire..)

Shakespeare in English.
Le Petit Prince in French, and another awful book whose title I allowed to escape me.
Various others in Afrikaans.

I taught middle school English recently and we read The Outsiders, Holes, and then we read Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. I recently worked with a high school ESOL class and we also read Hatchet.
