I think the 1st and 4th tip are the best! Explain what you mean and the other person will supply you the missing word! I find the use of "how do you say this in...?" irritating if it comes up more than twice in a conversation (and some use it every 5 sentences, and others even make a mistake when saying [in French, I'm a French Teacher] "How do you say..?" , THAT really drive me up the wall). But anyway, good article!
