Teachers changing conditions after a lesson request is accepted.

Have you ever had a teacher change, or try to change, conditions after accepting your request? For me, this is particularly inconvenient, because I take a lesson every day, and I need it at a certain time. So if the conditions are unacceptable, I often don't have enough time to schedule someone else in that time.

The conditions teachers have tried to change on me are time, price, number of participants and type of lesson. Time and price are self explanatory. Recently I had some guy insist on adding his wife to our conversation. I've tried this before, and found it to be not nearly as effective as one on one. Incidentally, I only take casual conversation lessons. And it's rare, but sometimes a teacher refuses to do a casual conversation. Most teachers really like this kind of lesson, but some say that they can't do it because they are not my friend, and talking casually would be inappropriate.

Has a teacher tried to change conditions on you?

I can understand reschduling (once) but price and other conditions should remain identical after I've booked a session.

If a teacher wants to change something, they should do before the next session is booked. Then I'll see the change (e.g. price) and decide if it works for me or not.

I don't expect teachers to keep the same conditions throughout, though. For example, if I start a language in September and plan to take an exam in January, I don't expect the teacher to keep the same price.

Never happened to me.  I have had to cancel a lesson because of a family health issue, but my teacher was willing to reschedule it for the next day.  It's a give & take thing.  I would find a teacher that I liked, one that respected the contract that you enter into, and stick with that person.

I am a teacher on italki and I think you may have just had some bad luck. I would never change any detail of the students lesson and certainly not the price once it has been booked. Only once have I ever had to re-arrange a lesson but I always rearrange my personal plans around the lessons, after all, we do get at least 24 hours notice. I offer casual 'informal tutoring' lessons to everyone, regardless of being a friend or not and am always happy to speak with new students.

I hope you have better luck in the future!

@CHYL - I'm older than you, but I'd like to point out that your bunny is bigger than your horse.
