Well, I think it is a problem that occurs with almost all young people after finishing high school.
Fortunately, I think I chose what I really like to do, I'm majoring in Information Systems, however I have a cousin who's suffering a lot about it, I mean, we study together since the beginning of my graduation and he still does not know what he really wants to his life, sometimes he says he won't continue studying this course, but even so he doesn't know what option he wants to take... it is a hard situation and I try to give some advice to him, but I think that, in the end, this is a personal choice, and hear others' opinion can let you more confuse...

I feel most of student has the same problem like you. My most classmates followed their partends' order. But for me, I am lucky to choose my major by myself. My major is tourism management. In China, rare colleges choose this major. Guide is hard job. I will have to face different people and deal with a variously problems and work outside and so on. Maybe I can't live smoothly this society in the future. But, I never regret it. That is my decision. I hope you also can choose your major by yourself and your life. In my opinion, we should creat own evaluation standard what thing is right and what i should do. That is ourself life. We have right to choose in person. Hope you have a better future! 

Thanks to you,Mary. I agree with you that it's not so necessary for you to continue education where you don't enjoy and i think that the problem would be if you stop your education. Unfortunally, in a lot of countries, due to crisis, the education is changing completely and it doesn't follow the motivation of the young students. You can enter certain EU university only if you have very high marks (i think about medicine, eng.) and on the other sides, you can get a good salary/position only with a specific degree (in my own experience, i can tell you that i worked four years as  Accounting Assistant but i never advanced to the Accountant position, even if i was doing quite the same job, because i didn't have a degree in economics). With a degree you always have more employment opportunities (independently of the type university degree).

Anyway, i am happy you find your way ! 

   The issue could be examined this way also:

    Is it possible that the use of Computers and the Internet and Video and Audio Files,

will entirely transform education  around the world?

    (a)  In what way are   many teachers  needed, when the recorded lectures of a few scholars can be used to teach so many?

     (b) Will it be necessary to continue travelling to a Brick---And---Mortar School?

           (c)   Will incremental learning be the way of the future, in which students can repeatedly test  through material until they master it,  at little expense to themselves or others?

                   (d)   Will students worldwide,    have a greater influence  on  Educational Practices in the future,   transcending the current role of Teacher Unions  and other Educators?

                          (e)  Will it be possible for students to initiate the system that was in place  for Albert Einstein?  In that system, when a student wanted to attend the lectures of an certain  excellent professor,  the student paid the professor, and both the student and professor benefited.

  I do not know about Russia Mary,  but a lot of the courses in American Universities are  unassociated with a specialty, but they are required.

  Thus,  American Schools, like those in some other countries,  contain required classes, for which the student  must pay,   and in which many students have no interest at all.

 I do not know that it has ever been  proven that the unconnected courses   are helpful.

Some of course may help, but I do not think that all are anything but a waste of time.
