Both "tetapi" and "tapi" mean "but" in English. "Tetapi" is the formal form used in writing whilst "tapi" is informal. For everyday conversation, both are accepted as standard usage. Both your sentences are correct. You can also replace "tidak tinggi" with "pendek" which means "short".
