Japanese Lesson for beginners 3-2 (2) ネクタイ 売り場 は 5階 です。
(つづきです)
We came to the information counter.
Do you have something that you want buy or see?
If no ;-), what about seeing neckties?
I.C.) いらっしゃいませ
---
いらっしゃいませ would be a very Japanese phrase. This is a kind of greeting anybody say, who works in a place such as hotel, shop, restaurant, salon, office etc, but hospitals, school....
It basically means the both "welcome" and "may I help you" at the same time.
You don't need to reply but smile and bow would be nice. :-)
I personally say ”どうも", "こんにちは” etc or bow only when they say looking at me.
---
私たち)あのう、ネクタイ 売り場 (うりば)は どこ です か。
---
あ のう(あのー)is a interjection, similar to "uh", used when you want fill space or pause during conversation. It is also used when hesitating speech, which means "er"
ネクタイ売り場(ねくたいうりば) = tie counter
---
I.C.) ネクタイ 売り場 は 5階 です。(ねくたいうりば は ごかい です)
---
5階(ごかい) = fifth floor
---
Hmm... politer version won't show up....
Anyway, Lets practice to say how to say floors.
階 is a 漢字(かんじ) which simply means floors.
Remember how to pronounce ages in Japanese?
Compare with it if you have a time. Its in Lesson 1-5.
http://www.italki.com/notebook/entry/203057.htm
I marked ★ on numbers which you have to be careful to pronounce.
F6 is ろっかい, while 6y.o. is ろくさい. 1, 8, 10 are the numbers you have to be careful the both.
Ground floor is ”1階(いっかい)” in Japanese.
Basement floor is...
地下1階(ちかいっかい)
地下2階(ちかにかい)
地下3階 (ちかさんかい)
…
the rooftop is 屋上(おくじょう)
---
Now we're on the 1st floor.
私たちは 今 1階 です。(わたしたちはいまいっかいです)
Which would you like to go 5階 by?
Lift, escalator or possibly stairs?
---
Lift = エレベーター
escalator = エスカレーター
stairs = 階段(かいだん)
---
私たち)エレベーター は どこ ですか?
Yea, that would be the smartest way, I suppose.
Politer version is finally going to show up... on next post.
