Brazilian Culture. Hello there! I'm Felix and I'm disappointed, only our worst songs are known by foreigners. If I say to you "I'm Brazilian what do you know about my country?", probably you will answer : "Ai se eu te pego, Michel Teló, Tche Tche re re, Rio, Cristo and Carnaval!" damn, these things are ridiculous. Why don't you try something more 'cool', like Seu Jorge or Tribalistas? So, if you wanna know our 'real' culture, I can show you with pleasure, there are 3 songs here: Don L. - Sangue é Champanhe (Part. Flora Matos) - 'Don l is not so famous but his songs are awesome!' - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6h2Mj-dK_xY Tribalistas - Velha Infancia http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwqrmEMB0wc Seu Jorge - Amiga Da Minha Mulher http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENwJxGEIiDE So tell me what do you think about these 2 songs! ;) Thanks!

Hey Felix! I'm sorry to hear that you're disappointed by the artists that tend to represent your culture's music. Most things that are mainstream kind of suck. :) But, I will say that at least Seu Jorge is fairly well known in the states. Granted, he most definitely isn't known by everyone, but his music is pretty popular with certain crowds. Anyone who is a Wes Anderson* fan knows of Seu Jorge's music as Wes Anderson included a number of Seu's David Bowie covers** in the soundtrack of his film "The Life Aquatic." And if I remember correctly, Seu Jorge was also in the movie itself. *Wes Anderson is a well-known American filmmaker. **a cover, musically-speaking, is a remake of a song originally created by another musician. For example, the Seu Jorge's song "Rebel, Rebel" on The Life Aquatic soundtrack is a cover of David Bowie's song "Rebel, Rebel." Hmm, I guess when I think of Brazilian music, I think of the following: Bossa Nova, Baile Funk, and Seu Jorge.

Thanks, I didn't have any preconceived ideas about what Brazilian music sounded like, but it was interesting anyway.

Mainstream media man, it's everywhere, but I think that's not all the music there is, so I mean everyone listens to what they like, and follow the music they like, you know

I looked up the first one on Youtube but to be honest it didn't really appeal to me. (sorry, man). But I do like the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim and my dad was telling me about a composer from Brazil (who's name I can't remember). I think the samba schools in Rio are kind of like the Mummers in Philadelphia, near where I live. They perform in a parade on New Years (or is it Thanksgiving). With the costumes and floats and everything. The Carnival in Rio is more like Mardi Gras in New Orleans though (to which I've never been), and think they both precede lent in Catholicism.
