Dear Diary. Today I wrote greeting card for my colleague. I wrote it in Japanese, but it was very hard to recall 誕 for 誕生日 after a few years of break. Japanese use word "mojibake" for unreadable characters, and I should admit most of kanji are mojibake for me now. But it's ok, I believe that speaking Japanese is like riding a bicycle - once learned, it will never be forgotten.
