Exercise: Ask for Advice to Study Abroad TASK DESCRIPTION: You have a friend who lives in a city abroad. You have decided that you would like to apply to do a course at one of the colleges in this city.Write to your friend explaining what you would like to do. Tell him/her what type of work or studies you have been doing for the past few years and ask for assistance in contacting an appropriate institution. MY LETTER: Dear John, I hope this letter finds you well. I've always been missing the days we spent together when you studied as an international student here. I'm very happy to let you know that I'm soon also going to your city to take a course in order to improve my programming skills and, if possible work there. But I'm still planning it and need you to help me. As you've known, I majored in programming in my university studies and acquired the Bachelor’s Degree in 2008. Then I wrote code for Bausch & Lomb as my first job. Later, I changed my job and has since then been working for CMCC, developing new software. I'd like to ask what courses in what colleges would suit me. Can you recommend some? In addition, what are the documents and certificates I must submit to apply for the courses you recommend, and to where shall I send my application? Thanks for your information and I hope to hear from you and meet you soon. Your friend, Melfree

Points in green are not mistakes, but recommendations/personal preference, I include them for reference because I think it makes it read better :)

Exercise: Ask for Advice to Study Abroad

TASK DESCRIPTION:

You have a friend who lives in a city abroad. You have decided that you would like to apply to do(UK)/take(US) a course at one of the colleges in this city.Write to your friend explaining what you would like to do. Tell him/her what type of work or studies you have been doing for the past few years and ask for assistance in contacting an appropriate institution.

MY LETTER:

Dear John,

I hope this letter finds you well. I miss the days we spent together when you studied here. I'm very happy to let you know that soon I'll be coming to your city to do/take a course in order to improve my programming skills and, if possible work there. But I'm still in the planning stage and need your help if possible.

As you know, I majored in programming at my university and received my Bachelor’s Degree in 2008. Then I wrote code for Bausch & Lomb as my first job. Later, I changed my job and have since been working for CMCC, developing new software.

I'd like to ask which courses at what colleges would you recommend. In addition, any information regarding the documents and certificates that must be submitted for each application, as well as the departments they should be sent to.

Thanks in advance for any information or suggestions and I hope to hear from you and see you again soon. If this is all just a little too much for you to take on right now, then don't worry, I will sort it out myself somehow. Regardless, we will be able to spend some time together in the near future.

Your friend,
Melfree
