It seems like life is passing by me like a car on a big road; I'm just staying on the sidelines and looking  at on it.

==== "look on", или "look upon" чаще используется в немного другом контексте, когда ты смотришь на что-то, на поверхность чего-то на предмет, или событие. look at используется в контексте смотреть, просто смотреть, пассивно наблюдать, обозревать, так что в этом случае оно подходит немного лучше. Как-то так.
