1- English is a universal language. Correct.

The context to use it in seems slightly difficult but its not too bad.

A or An??

2- English is an universal language.  Incorrect

The rule is regarding a vowel sound not necessarily a vowel.  As "u" here is pronounced like "you" it is not a vowel sound.  The same applies to university.

A or An??

Hi guys, which one is correct out of the ones below? Which word do I need to use, AN or A?

1- English is a universal language. -> correct
2- English is an universal language.

You would usually use "an" before words starting with a, i, u, e or u, but there are some exceptions like this one because of the pronunciation. For example, you wouldn't say "a hour" but "an hour" since the "h" can't really be heard.

About this one, the "u" at the beginning sounds more like "yu". So you just place "a" before the noun.
