The Physiscian , review The physician is a 2013 German film , based on the novel by Noah Gordon. The film focuses in an orphan , Rob Cole, whose mother died on his hands of a mysterious illness . We are introduced by the writer in a medieval world of the 11th century, the Dark Ages. In England , he attaches himself to Barber ( Stellan Skargard), whose methods are nothing sort of barbaric. Growing up fast , Rob (Tom Payne) learns what he can from barber´s methods. Finally, He decides to go Persia, in order to be taught by the legendary Persian physician Avicenna (Ben Kingsley). He knows Christians are forbidden in Muslim lands, otherwise Jews are tolerated, so he performs a circumcision on himself and changes his name, pretendig to be a Jew to avoid problems. It is important to say that Rob has an unique gift, which allows him to detect grave illness merely by touching another. Obviously, this gift will be crucial during the whole plot. In my point of view, The physician is a great entertaining adventure movie, I was captivated throughout the entire film.On the one hand,I was equally fascinated by the beautiful costumes and brilliant screen settings, which were only to be topped by the superb acting of Tom Payne. On the other hand , This film has negative reviews , because the Avicenna biography is changed slightly. Anyway, I don´t want to make spoilers. Please, ignore the negative reviews of this film. Do yourself a favor and enjoy a beautiful work of cinema.
