What is my job Although my background is Electronic Engineering, I'm a public employee and I work as an instrument technician at a research institution from Brazil which actuates in the nuclear physics field. My job is to maintain electronic equipment and measuring instruments which are used in the daily research laboratories routines. I'm also responsible for the maintenance of a cluster computer, used for doing simulation in the numeric computing field. More specifically speaking, we use computer software based on Monte Carlo methods, like MCNP and Geant4, to simulate many situations where we would have the presence of radionuclides, either directly or indirectly. I'm currently doing a corrective maintenance of an X-ray equipment. It has been a big challenge because it's difficult to analyze faults in equipment whose the manufacturer doesn't provide a detailed service manual. I think it will take at least two weeks for figuring out what is the root of the problem.
