In China, the most important new year is the Spring Festival, based on our lunar calendar. Before the festival, families will clean their homes to sweep away bad luck. On New Year's Eve, all family members gather to have a big reunion dinner together. During the holiday, we visit relatives, give red envelopes to children, hang red couplets on doors, and watch lion dances to welcome a lucky new year.

And if I remember well, it's also usual to make a lot of noise with firecrackers to drive Nian (年) away (according to the legend).
