Hi Daniel! I would suggest learning Syrian or Lebanese dialects as they are easier to understand and follow along. Other dialects might be difficult and others might find it difficult to understand you. Moroccan and Algerian dialects are quite different when compared to the other arab dialects; they combine english, arabic and french words, if i am not mistaken. Hope this helps! Salam Daniel, Greetings from Morocco :) Choosing a dialect depends on your purpose. If you want to work/ live in a specific country from the Arab world. Here are some points I may add, hoping that they can help you understand better the situation. - If you know Fusha ( modern standard Arabic) the rest of dialects will be easy for you, considering the vocabulary side. - As for Moroccan Darija, It’s not understandable by the other arabs for two reasons mainly: — reason 1 : Moroccan Darija ( maybe the dialects of the Maghreb in general ) are a combination of Amazigh (grammar/ words) and Arabic. Because of history. — reason 2 : The Egyptian and Shami dialects, were spread by media thanks to movies and songs. People from the Maghreb, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia understand most of the dialects meanwhile people from the middle east don’t understand the Maghrebi. Mainly for the lack of exposure of Darija. It’s true that Moroccans, Algerians and Tunisians tend to use French words while speaking, because or history of again. But this doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to communicate or understand.
