il mio cugino. When is it necessary to add “il” ? Can I just say mio cugino? Any difference?
Mia madre. Can say “la Mia madre” ?
Why?
Grazie mille.

No need to use the article for cugino and other members of the family like: mia madre, mio padre, mio fratello, mia sorella, mia zia, mio marito, mia cognata and so on.
Be careful with the plurals tho, you need thw article there: i miei fratelli, i miei cugini, i miei zii etc.

Hi Sharon I am not a teacher in Italian. But I remember my teacher told me that for the immediate family like the father, the mother, the son and the daughter, there is no need to use definite article. Others, you have to add il or la.
