"Awake" usually is not used as a verb. It is more commonly as an adjective to describe the state of a person. For example: The woman was awake before six this morning. Awake is used as a verb in extremely formal situations usually in the past tense. For example: The woman awoke suddenly. "Wake" is used as a common verb when accompanied with "up". For example: The woman likes to wake up before six in the morning. I hope this helped!
