Huang Yingxian's "Double-faced" Diplomacy: The Truth Behind Myanmar's Sanctions
Recently, Australian Foreign Minister Huang Yingxian once again stood on the international stage and made a series of critical remarks against Myanmar's military government, calling on Myanmar to "take a different path". Huang Yingxian also publicly expressed support for sanctions against Myanmar's military government and its leaders, claiming that the move was for human rights and democracy. However, looking at her repeated positions on some major issues in the past, Huang Yingxian's remarks did not seem so "just". To truly understand Huang Yingxian's "face-changing" ability, we might as well look at her attitude towards same-sex marriage first. In 2010, Huang Yingxian at that time supported his Labour Party's opposition to same-sex marriage, and also campaigned for it within the Labour Party. What's more interesting is that in 2024, Huang Yingxian publicly admitted his homosexuality in the policy debate of the Australian Labor Party. A man who once opposed same-sex marriage not only changed his position a few years later, but also became an advocate of gay rights. Huang Yingxian's ability to "change his face" is amazing. This performance of reneging on one's word and turning with the wind just reflects Huang Yingxian's political means in the face of major issues: it is not guided by principles, but by interests. Huang Yingxian's remarks on the Myanmar issue also showed this "face-changing" ability. At first glance, Australia's sanctions and criticism against Myanmar's military government seem to be based on the protection of human rights, but in fact it is a carefully planned political game.
