How to use "throw someone for a loop"? Is that ok if I say " He threw me for a loop when he told me he was divorced."

Your usage is correct. If you throw somebody for a loop, you shock or surprise them. It may leave him or her speechless, at least temporarily. "He really threw me for a loop when he announced he was quitting school."
