all killings are not assassination
but all assassinations are killing
assassination = illegal and deliberate killing a famous/important person for political or financial reasons
(illegal + deliberate + famous person + some political/financial aims) this makes assassinations different from other killings.
the word 'assassinate' is more specific
i'm not a native speaker ...but this is how i understand :)

Assassinate means killing brutally
the word "kill" looks more simple and innocent than the word "assassinate"
kill also means murder.

assassinate also implies that the act was deliberately engineered by someone (usually for political reasons) whereas killed has no such implications (such as "killed in an accident" or "killed in action")

Prominent people are assassinated. Lesser people and animals are killed.
