work at, in, or for ?
"Tony worked in a lawyer's office years ago, but he is now working at a bank."
I found this sentence in "New Concept English".
Before that, however, I had seen the collocation "work for" more often.
Could anyone tell me how to choose from 'work for', 'work at', and 'work in' ?

Work for... an organization or person
Work in ...a field of work (ie trades, etc.), location (building, country, department, etc.)
Work at... an organization or location
They're all pretty versatile, really. you just have to use logic, I think.

Work for can be used for a company/person/or a noun e.g bank
e.g i work for sony
i work for Bob
i work for a bank
u can't use work at or work in for a person

不要这么死学硬背的,你在理解上出现了问题,这是中国的通病,我也走过弯路,把见到work 就是at in on for等等一大堆没有用的词组,这是非常犯毛病的!为什么说呢,因为你不懂得work 在你说的句子中是intransitive verb ,这样给你学习带来很大的困难,而intransitive verb的最大特点就是不可以跟object。知道这一点,你自然会想到后面一定接的是adverb或者是prepositional phrase,而他们的作用就是modifier,修饰 verb “work”。
