What's the difference between 'flood' and 'flooding'?
When they both are the noun, what's the difference between them?

I feed the food to the bleeding man in the flood.
I feed the food to the bleeding man in the flooding.

A good rule to follow is just keep things as simple as possible. Why use a gerund (-ing form of a verb used as a noun) when the normal noun is perfectly OK? Your meaning would be understood, but "flooding" sounds awkward in this case.
