What is the difference between 「読んでいます」and 「読みます」?
They seem very similar. Is one more polite, or imply something a bit different? Thank you!

読んでいます = I am reading
読みます = I read
There are slight differences in usage from that of English, but you'll pick that up as you go along.

1.読んでいます。
私は今本を読んでいます。I'm reading a book now.
私は昨日からその本を読んでいます。I have been reading the book since yesterday.
2.読みます
私は毎日本を読みます。
I read a book everyday.
私は明日までにその本を読みます。
I'll read the book by tomorrow.
