Is a preposition needed here? Buy (?) me a car. Sell (?) me your car. Read (?) me a book. Write (?) me a letter. Is the construction the same as "Give me an apple. / Give the apple to me." ? Thank you.

In a word - yes - the construction is exactly the same. We don't really have a dative case in English if that helps to explain.
