I awarded him (with) a car for coming first.
I awarded a car to him for coming first.
Both are fine.

HI, the word "award" can be used as a noun as in a prize and as a verb [ to award= to give or present]

You could also say
He was awarded the Johnson Medal for his public service.
He was awarded with a kiss for his thoughtfulness.
He was awarded with a bonus for his effective management.
