thrift-store
Hey guys,
I came across the word thrift-store when I was reading Jonathan Franzen’s novel Freedom yesterday. How do you define it?
Thanks a lot!

A thrift store is a shop that sells second-hand items (clothing, furniture, books etc) at very low prices.
To be thrifty is to be careful about money, not extravagant.
Thrift stores are often run by charities to raise money, and the goods they sell are given to them. In the UK we call them charity shops or second-hand shops.
