葡萄牙 - Portugal?
葡萄牙 literally means grape and tooth or ivory so I'm quite curious about whether this country is named like that because of its grape products. It is said that Portugal port is very famous. Or Portugal is called Pútáoyá since Pútáoyá sounds like Portugal.

Yeah, Pútáoyá sounds like Portugal, this is the main reason.

It's only because of the pronunciation.
When translating countries' names, we usually base on the pronunciation :)

明代早年將葡萄牙人稱之為 「佛郎機」,後稱 「蒲都麗家(Portugal)」,再後稱「葡萄牙」 迄今。改稱為「蒲都麗家」之史實,見《明史》〈佛郎機傳〉。
